<p>Kutalmışoğlu Süleyman Şah is the founder of the Anatolian Seljuk State. After Malazgirt, he directed the Turkmens to Western Anatolia. He made Iznik the center and established a permanent principality-state against the Byzantine Empire. His advance to the Straits made Istanbul uneasy. He died in a clash with Tutush in the Syrian campaign in 1086. Although his sons were captured, the Seljuk presence in Anatolia was not erased.Suleyman Shah is considered to be the first Anatolian sultan to turn the nomadic influx into a settled state. It opened the door to the tradition that would extend from Iznik to Konya. Despite its short life, it has a great political impact. He is one of the starting figures of Anatolian Turkish history.</p>
