<p>Yıldırım Bayezid is known for his fast expeditions. He tried to unite the Anatolian principalities and defeated the Crusader army in Nicopolis in 1396. He besieged Istanbul and the ideas of Boğazkesen developed. The defeat and capture of Timur in the Battle of Ankara in 1402 opened the era of the Fatah. Bayezid was found brave but hasty. His centralism angered the principalities, yet he soon made the Ottomans a great power.Its dramatic ending teaches that victory and destruction can go hand in hand.</p>
