<p>Murad II ascended the throne twice. Varna (1444) and II. Kosovo (1448) consolidated its Ottoman position in the Balkans with its victories. At one point, he left the throne to his son Mehmed and withdrew; he returned after the crisis. Culture and music patronage increased in Edirne. His repulsion of the crusades increased the fear of the Ottomans in Europe. He was a patient and experienced sultan. It laid the groundwork for the conquest of Istanbul by Fatih II.Murad is referred to as the sultan of stability.</p>
